Dibbets starts his work by making an underpainting in white and light-grey. This is done with brush, sponge or paint gun. Then several transparent layers [up to 35] are affixed [glacis]. During this proces he puts on more and more details. He often uses a small sophisticated paint gun [airbrush] with which he can paint very small details, but that can also be used to create a subtle blurr which gives the painting an etherial and elusive character.
